We are so excited to feature our latest bride who had a destination wedding! She shares with us some of her favorite things including why she chose to have a destination wedding in Mexico! Rabya Valla is an extremely talented young professional and did we mention she works at Facebook in Austin, Texas?! Rabya said her favorite part of her wedding was the ceremony,”There was a moment, right before me and my dad walked down the aisle, where time seemed to just stop. The noise around me was muffled, colors blended and all I could think was “I am happy.” It felt like a movie. Then, I proceeded to marry my soulmate in the most beautiful, picturesque setting. It was perfect.” That statement still gives me goose bumps!
We wanted to hear from Rabya herself on why she chose to shop at Silk Threads for one of her wedding outfits and mentioned it was so important for her outfits to be extremely unique. She described her vision to Ruby and it took a couple of outfits to get what she wanted; but when Ruby made sure she showed her this beautiful ombre gown.
She showed it to me and my first reaction was “Wow”. It was stunning. But I didn’t think I could pull it off. She assured me that I could and made me try it on. I put it on and fell in love. Then, we changed a bunch of different things, colors, straps, intricate details to make it the outfit I envisioned, to make it my own. Ruby is so creative! I remember referring to her as “the Jonathan Adler of Indian Outfits”, which made her laugh. In all seriousness though, the outfit she created for me was so perfect in every way and it made me feel incredible.
I had to ask Rabya why did she want to do a destination wedding and especially why Cabo!
Often times you hear about huge Indian weddings where the Bride can’t even remember the details because she is so overwhelmed with making her 100s of guests happy. Some people LOVE that and want that. Some people don’t. I knew I would not be comfortable in that setting. I wanted quality time with close family and friends and a destination wedding gave us just that.
I realized early on that if you are having a destination wedding, the staff and their level of customer service is incredibly important to not only the success of your wedding but also your stress levels and overall well being. I went with Melia Cabo Real Beach & Golf Resort because they met our criteria for food, beach, venues, rooms, etc. but above that, their service levels were exceptional. Happy guests means good times.
As we all know, choosing your wedding vendors is sometimes an extremely daunting task. Therefore, I wanted to hear from Rabya what was important to her and how she chose her vendors. Rabya explained to me that every bride is different and photography/videography were by the far the most important vendors to her. She is an extremely organized person and basically made a gigantic excel spreadsheet with a ranking system to help narrow her search.
I also read tons of reviews online. I interviewed my top contenders and asked “why you?”. In my research, I found that, for every category, there are a few companies that are great at what they do and own the Cabo market. At the end of the day, my fancy ranking system mattered a lot less than people’s reviews and opinions. And in the end, I went with my gut.
I always like to end any interview with some advice for future brides so I asked, “If you have any advice for shopping for your wedding outfits what would it be?”
For wedding dresses, I would advise any bride to try on multiple styles. I was dead set on a ball gown despite my beachy ceremony and a friend convinced me to be open to all styles. Having that openness allowed me to find the perfect dress. And it was not a ball gown! For indian outfits, honestly, I don’t have much advise. Go to Silk Threads. Talk to Ruby. Seriously, though. She’s a rockstar.
Congratulations Rabya! We wish you two the best and here are some images from her big day!
