Summer is just around the corner minus this crazy cold front we just got! Silk Threads is always striving to find the latest trends in fashion, but not just in fabrics. We are so excited to announce our latest jewelry line at our studio. We  looked for big trends like color palettes, arm candy pieces, cuts, and of course; design. With all of these factors we are able to develop a beautiful “Look Book” for you!

The main inspiration in this specific line is traditional Indian design mixed with a fusion flare. In the collection, you can see it has a variety of paisley designs to kudan like pieces. However, the bangles and rings are so perfect for any cocktail-like event. We love the long necklaces because it can be the perfect accessory to a dress like it’s displayed or to dress up an everyday outfit.

Which piece is your favorite? Share it on our our Facebook Fan Page!

We are really excited to blog about our latest customer, Dr. Geeta Nayyar. Dr. Nayyar moved to Miami over a year ago and is working full time with AT&T while part time at her practice. She is the Chief Medical Information Office for AT&T and currently guides their health portfolio’s strategy. Modern Healthcare has named her one of the “Top 25 minority Healthcare Executives” and one “Top 8 Women to watch for in Healthcare”. She is also a member for American College of Rheumatology and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems.

Dr. Nayyar has been a rockstar since she was young! She got into medical school right out high school at the age of 17 at the University of Miami. Then she started her residency at George Washington University and also completed her fellowship there as well, in rheumatology. Dr. Nayyar did not have a clear idea of what she wanted to do clinically, but without doubt she did not expect all of her efforts would have taken her to become the CMIO at AT&T! Once she completed her fellowship at GW she decided to take it one step further by getting her MBA. She took on a variety of projects that included how to improve EMR or Electronic Medical Records for patients and doctors. Her background with revenues and accounts receivables from her MBA gave her an outside perspective on how to resolve these issues.

She currently has been the CMIO for over a year now, “I’ve really enjoyed working for AT&T because it’s a company with so much breadth and scalability. There’s a lot of opportunity to make an impact on the industry in a significant way. It’s been great because my role is a new role, so it’s been fun to craft it and shape it.”

Dr. Nayyar is currently on the board for HIMSS board of directors and is helping to hold the annual conference banquet.

The HIMSS Awards Banquet is a time for celebration and for recognizing members who have added their unique sparkle and verve to the industry. Lifetime achievement, scholarship programs, activities and publications — HIMSS honors individuals, groups and organizations for significant contributions to the Society, their organizations or to the health IT profession. Come toast their accomplishments at this year’s elegant event!

Dr. Nayyar came to us looking for an outfit that she could wear at this year’s banquet. She was specifically looking for something that was modern, but elegant. We were honored she came to us to help represent her at this banquet.

Thank you Dr. Nayyar for choosing Silk Threads to represent all of the wonderful work you do in the medicinal world. We are so thankful we could help you in any way. How gorgeous does she look in her saree?

Chandni Parikh tweeted at us letting us know how much she misses being on the runway and it inspired us to do a feature about her story!

Screen shot 2013-03-25 at 9.25.20 AM

Chandi Parikh is currently a Freshman at UTD studying neuroscience and biology. This made me extremely curious to know how she started participating in fashion shows. Ironically, her first fashion show was on March 22nd, 2012 at the Silk Threads Bridal Fashion Show. I asked Chandni what made her want to participate in our fashion show initially:

I honestly used to be so distant from such events as I had never been in one. I would watch from afar on America’s Next Top Model or Bollywood. I’m a dancer at heart, I never expected myself to be in one. However, my thoughts and my future completely changed when I entered in the Miss South Asia Texas Beauty Pageant. I was awestruck when I won the pageant and was crowned with the title of Miss South Asia Texas. I gained an infinite amount of confidence, strength, and determination. That’s when I thought that I can’t just stop here. I have to climb the mountain higher. So I really love doing fashion shows, because it reminds me that everything great happens with one step, big or small. Being a dancer, I feel there are many similarities, such as poise, coordination, discipline, and above all grace.

She decided wear a Silk Threads bridal outfit because she initially met Ruby at the pageant and they connected right off the bat. I asked why why she wanted to wear a Silk Threads outfit and she explained, “I knew that Silk Threads had beautiful clothing, so I literally felt like a Queen in the Silk Threads outfits.”

Thank you Chandni for your kind words and now check out that gorgeous outfit!

We are starting to see saree’s make a come back on the red carpet and in fashion week. It  seems designers are going back to traditional roots. We have seen a variety of celebrities wearing saree’s on red carpets more and more. Bollywood is a trend center in fashion and it seems no one will forget their Indian background.

A variety of designers including Karishma are setting these trends with big and bold colors. They are keeping the style classic, but with an extreme elegant feel. Brocades, golds, velvets, and florals have been all over the runway. Check out some of their pieces below:

We were so excited to her one of our favorite pageant princesses got runner up at the Miss Teen Indian USA! Tanvi Shinde is extremely talented dancer and blew the audience away with her talent for the night! Tanvi didn’t enter the pageant herself, but actually was sent in!
What I mean by that is that I entered a Miss Teen India Texas pageant in 2012 held by Arya International and i ended up winning the pageant. So since i won the Miss Teen India Texas pageant it was my job to represent Texas at the Miss Teen India USA pageant and i did that well by winning the second runner up crown for Miss Teen India USA 2013 along with the title of Miss Photogenic 2013.
Tanvi is known for her skills on the dance floor! She combined a variety of dance styles that included: Lavani, which is a marathi folk dance, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Belly, Bhatratnatyam and Kathak. She has been dancing since she was a little girl and never stopped having a passion for it.
We wanted to know why Tanvi chose Silk Threads Designs for the Indian segment and she explained to us, “I wanted to be confident while wearing a gorgeous detailed worked Indian outfit. Also, I really wanted to be comfortable when I walked down the catwalk. Another reason was because Silk Threads clothes are always so unique and eye catching. I know that people cannot take their eyes off of Silk Threads outfits and I made sure I chose a designer piece! It’s all about looking confident while walking in a indian outfit and thanks to Silk Theards it was possible for me to do so!”
She mainly chose this outfit because she wanted someone stylish, fashionable, and conservative. The outfit displayed so many colors, which gave that extra wow factor. She stated this outfit gave her a very young and elegant look that she believe was truly needed for this pageant.
I asked Tanvi what she would advise other girls going into pageantry.
When you are in a pageant keep in mind that it’s not just about being beautiful on the outside, but also on the inside. It’s all about how you represent yourself and show how talented you truly are! Show respect to everyone around you and give credit to those who supported you to get there. With their blessing and wishes you can conquer the world. Regardless, no matter what the results are be happy with what you have and take it as an experience.
Finally, I always like to ask a fun question and I asked Tanvi, “If you could meet anyone in the world who would it be and why?!”

If i could meet anyone in the world it would be Madhuri Dixit because I feel like I can connect to her in many ways. She is Maharastrian, she has a passion for dance, and she is a phenomenal actress. My dream would to be a great dancer and actor like her. She has been a great inspiration for me throughout my life and always will be!

Congratulations Tanvi! We are so glad we were able to be apart of your big day!

Here are some great photos!

We are so excited to feature our latest bride who had a destination wedding! She shares with us some of her favorite things including why she chose to have a destination wedding in Mexico! Rabya Valla is an extremely talented young professional and did we mention she works at Facebook in Austin, Texas?! Rabya said her favorite part of her wedding was the ceremony,”There was a moment, right before me and my dad walked down the aisle, where time seemed to just stop. The noise around me was muffled, colors blended and all I could think was “I am happy.” It felt like a movie. Then, I proceeded to marry my soulmate in the most beautiful, picturesque setting. It was perfect.” That statement still gives me goose bumps!

We wanted to hear from Rabya herself on why she chose to shop at Silk Threads for one of her wedding outfits and mentioned it was so important for her outfits to be extremely unique. She described her vision to Ruby and it took a couple of outfits to get what she wanted; but when Ruby made sure she showed her this beautiful ombre gown.

She showed it to me and my first reaction was “Wow”. It was stunning. But I didn’t think I could pull it off. She assured me that I could and made me try it on. I put it on and fell in love. Then, we changed a bunch of different things, colors, straps, intricate details to make it the outfit I envisioned, to make it my own. Ruby is so creative! I remember referring to her as “the Jonathan Adler of Indian Outfits”, which made her laugh. In all seriousness though, the outfit she created for me was so perfect in every way and it made me feel incredible.

I had to ask Rabya why did she want to do a destination wedding and especially why Cabo!

Often times you hear about huge Indian weddings where the Bride can’t even remember the details because she is so overwhelmed with making her 100s of guests happy. Some people LOVE that and want that. Some people don’t. I knew I would not be comfortable in that setting. I wanted quality time with close family and friends and a destination wedding gave us just that.

I realized early on that if you are having a destination wedding, the staff and their level of customer service is incredibly important to not only the success of your wedding but also your stress levels and overall well being. I went with Melia Cabo Real Beach & Golf Resort because they met our criteria for food, beach, venues, rooms, etc. but above that, their service levels were exceptional. Happy guests means good times.

As we all know, choosing your wedding vendors is sometimes an extremely daunting task. Therefore, I wanted to hear from Rabya what was important to her and how she chose her vendors. Rabya explained to me that every bride is different and photography/videography were by the far the most important vendors to her.  She is  an extremely organized person and basically made a gigantic excel spreadsheet with a ranking system to help narrow her search.

I also read tons of reviews online. I interviewed my top contenders and asked “why you?”. In my research, I found that, for every category, there are a few companies that are great at what they do and own the Cabo market. At the end of the day, my fancy ranking system mattered a lot less than people’s reviews and opinions. And in the end, I went with my gut.

I always like to end any interview with some advice for future brides so I asked, “If you have any advice for shopping for your wedding outfits what would it be?”

For wedding dresses, I would advise any bride to try on multiple styles. I was dead set on a ball gown despite my beachy ceremony and a friend convinced me to be open to all styles. Having that openness allowed me to find the perfect dress. And it was not a ball gown! For indian outfits, honestly, I don’t have much advise. Go to Silk Threads. Talk to Ruby. Seriously, though. She’s a rockstar.

Congratulations Rabya! We wish you two the best and here are some images from her big day!
