Event Details

“I wondered why somebody didn’t do something.
Then I realized, I am somebody.” – Author Unknown

In addition to hosting and participating in several events throughout the year, Silk Threads holds an Annual Gala, entire proceeds of which go to a selected charity. The central theme of the Gala is around Fashion, but it incorporates creative elements of music, dance, food and art.

Videos of our previous shows are available on Silk Threads Youtube Channel.

Thanks to all our guests, sponsors and volunteers – we had a sold-out Gala once again, with all proceeds going towards a scholarship for UTD. Here is a write-up of the evening, and the original event information is preserved below.

This year, we are proud to announce that the beneficiary non-profit for Eighth Annual Silk Threads Gala will be the Asia Center at the The University of Texas at Dallas. All proceeds will go towards establishing an Arts-related scholarship at the school, and the event will take place at the brand new Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center.
This year’s Gala theme is “Bollywood to Hollywood” – highlighting the Impact of Fashion on Cinema.

Fashion in Cinema has come a full circle – from the western influence in the Indian movies of the seventies and the eighties, to the use of traditional Indian motifs and embroideries in current Hollywood productions.

Ruby Bhandari, CEO and Chief Designer of Silk Threads, has taken up the challenge to show

snippets of this to the audience in Dallas by launching her new collection reflecting this dichotomy at the event.

Our Celebrity Emcee this year is LeeAnne Locken, star of the Real Housewives of Dallas on Bravo TV.

LeeAnne has all the makings of a classic Real Housewife: ex-pageant queen, close friends with another Bravolebrity (in this case, Most Eligible Dallas’ Courtney Kerr), and charity benefit-thrower extraordinaire. LeeAnn has done stints in modeling, acting, media consultation, hosting, chairing nonprofits, and book writing.

Pre-Gala Party: Thank you to those who attended the rocking party at the Lawley Art Gallery on September 28tha great time was had by all! Thanks to the artists Jeremy Long and Steve Tate, as well as author and philanthropist, Donna Arp Weitzman.

The Gala night will kick off with a VIP Networking event at 7:00 pm in the VIP section.  Guests can enjoy passed appetizers and drinks, with curated selections from Dallas’ well-known chefs, while mingling with national and local celebrities.

The Silk Threads Fashion Show will begin at 8:45 pm in the main Ballroom, featuring a custom collection for women and men from fashion designer, Ruby Bhandari.  The models will strut the runway as guests enjoy cocktails and admire the meticulously crafted designs that combine modern styles with the ornate beauty of Indian traditional design elements.

Number of expected guests: 250+ of Dallas’ who’s who

A big Thank You to all our Sponsors for their support.
